Last day of sustainable transport event today!

New sustainable travel and transport event, Eco2 Transport, has arrived.

Being held at London’s Earls Court 2 from 16-18 November 2010, the free event will give public and private sector organisations the scoop on how to reduce their carbon emissions, maximise efficiency and cut costs.

Eco2 Transport was officially opened by Transport Minister Norman Baker, and is featuring a seminar schedule of more than 95 speakers including biofuel racing champion and former government minister, Lord Paul Drayson; electric car enthusiast and media presenter of Red Dwarf and Scrapheap Challenge fame, Robert Llewellyn; and the head of ASDA’s carbon-cutting national transport team, Chris Hall.

More than 100 exhibitors are showcasing the latest eco-transport and travel innovations from across the UK and the globe.

Some of the latest electric, hydrogen and hybrid vehicles are also on display from manufacturers such as Tesla, Toyota, Lexus, Renault and Peugeot, as alongside specialist low-carbon vehicle makers such as EcoCa and THINK.

“Transport is a part of every organisation – from commuting workers to operating vehicle fleets and distributing goods,” says Eco2 Transport event director Charles Troy.

“There is increasing demand from eco-conscious customers and governments concerned with meeting carbon reduction targets for organisations to be as ‘green’ as possible.

“Eco2 Transport will bring together the leading thinkers, manufacturers and advocates of the sustainable travel and transport sector, to show organisations how to minimise their organisation’s carbon footprint, and make their transport and travel budgets stretch further.”

Eco2 Transport will be held at Earls Court 2, London, from 10am-4pm on 16, 17 and 18 November, 2010.

Eco2 Exhibitor/seminar highlights:

‘How to take one in four trucks off the road and carry the same cargo!’ – SOMI Trailers
The advantages in reducing truck numbers are obvious. Due to a stream of innovation and new inventions, the space normally ignored under trailers can be used to carry eight extra pallets – 31 per cent extra- therefore cutting costs, CO2 and potentially traffic. SOMI Trailers’ Managing Director Pauline Dawes will present how this world-first is achieved at Eco2 Transport

100 per cent zero-emissions vehicle – EcoCa
EcoCa is the first 100 per cent zero emission modular vehicle manufacturing technology project – from production to application – in the world. EcoCa’s quest for developing a sustainable and innovative manufacturing technology and most environmentally clean and low cost vehicles has taken 20 years, and it all started because of the recognition that there exists no ceiling for the price of a barrel of crude oil.

GUTSi commuter service
The newly-launched London-based commuter service GUTSi (Green Urban Transport Sustainability Initiative) uses the 100 per cent electric GUTSi ZerO commuter vehicle to deliver commuters from their homes to their office in style, with leather seats, free WiFi, Sky TV, power points and use of netbooks. Running almost silently, the zero-emission vehicle minimises the environmental footprint of employee travel.

Tesla Roadster
The Tesla Roadster is the world’s only zero-emission supercar. The Roadster travels 0-60 mph in 3.7 seconds, yet it can be recharged with pure renewable energy. Based in California’s Silicon Valley, Tesla has delivered more than 1,300 Roadsters to owners in at least 30 countries – and they’ll be bringing it to London for Eco2 Transport.

Delivering sustainable transport in the fast moving consumer world of grocery retail distribution
The head of ASDA’s national transport team, Chris Hall, will present a collection of practical examples and initiatives that are driving ASDA to achieve a C02 reduction level of 60 per cent from the base-line in 2005 to 2015.
