BBC Dragon heads up search for top leader

Shaf Rasul, successful entrepreneur and star of the BBC’s online Dragons’ Den, has been announced as the celebrity Ambassador and Judge for the Orange 2010 Leader of the Year Award.

The award forms part of the prestigious National Business Awards in partnership with Orange which are in their ninth year and recognise exceptional leadership skills in business.

Using his extensive experience and business knowledge, Shaf will play a key role in the judging panel to determine this year’s winner – to be announced at a glittering awards ceremony in November. Last year saw Peter Marks, the Cooperative Group Chief Executive, winning the coveted award.

As well using his skills to help uncover this year’s Orange Leader of the Year, Shaf is also heading up an in depth study on leadership traits in the post recession UK, commissioned by Orange in the run up to the awards. The study will help inform the search for this year’s finalists for the eminent Orange award and Shaf will act as media spokesperson on the project. Shaf Rasul successfully manages a career as a business mentor, one of the BBC’s Online Dragons as well as heading up optical media distribution business E-Net Computers and directing an extensive venture capital investment portfolio.

Says Shaf Rasul: “It’s a real honour to be involved in this year’s Orange Leader of the Year Award. As Judge and Ambassador on the programme, I hope my story as a successful entrepreneur and leader will inspire others to follow their dreams, stay motivated and fight hard for success.

“Inspirational leaders and role models are so important – not just in the world of business, but in all fields of life. And leadership is not just about ‘being in charge’ it’s about influence. Leadership comes from your ability to inspire trust in other people. If people trust you, they will follow. If they can’t trust you eventually things will fall apart. And in the post recessionary climate of today, this trust has become increasingly important. I know that much of my success has come from this mentality and I hope to inspire others to learn from this way of thinking.”

The National Business Awards will take place on 9th November at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London. .
