Top enterprise advocates crowned
Some of the UK’s most staunch supporters of business have been recognised by HM The Queen.
Ten individuals have been given The Queen's Awards for Enterprise Promotion for excellence in promoting the growth of business enterprise and entrepreneurship in others.
The awards recognise those who have helped further enterprise by supporting encouraging entrepreneurship in individuals in a variety of ways, such as through education, coaching, mentorship and financial support.
The winners received an engraved chalice and a Grant of Appointment that outlined why the award was given. A reception at Buckingham Palace followed the award presentations.
Business Secretary Vince Cable, who presented the awards, said: “Celebrating our enterprising and innovative business culture is a wonderful way to highlight the exciting place entrepreneurship has in Britain today.
“The success of these people and their commitment to promoting enterprise and innovation is laudable.”
The award for Lifetime Achievement in Enterprise Promotion went to George Douglas Scott, CEO of business support agency TEDCO Ltd, in Jarrow, Tyne and Wear.
Mr Scott received the award for his work promoting enterprise at both local and national levels in economically-disadvantaged areas.
Doug has formed partnerships to tackle the barrier between enterprise development and economic inactivity resulting from poverty and remains dedicated to inspiring aspiration amongst those who lack the confidence to start their own business.
Nominated by his colleagues at TEDCO, Doug has developed an award-winning community enterprise coaching model, and has encouraged enterprise within education projects.
He is deputy chairman of the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies and serves on the board of UK Business Incubation.
